Build Day #6 and a Taste of NOLA Jazz

Today we got back on the bikes after a couple of days off. Apparently a few people had a rough time riding thier bikes to the build site because of road conditions and/or traffic. Riding down the crazy streets of DC and PGH must have made me immune to such things because I didn't have any major problems (this is not me tooting my horn, but instead just showing how urban cyclists have to be a little crazy to hop on thier bikes every morning as they head off to work/class).

The whole crew was heading off to the build site I was at the day before. For those of us who were there yesterday we pretty much picked up where we left off which meant that it was back to installing baseboards and shoe molding. There was lots of sawing action as people were prepping and putting in door frames and also baseboards/shoe molding around the house.

Sadly Holly forgot her reflective triangle back at the host so as punishment she had to wear it around the whole day.

As we travel from city to city we rely heavily on the donation of dinner from hosts, alumni and community groups. We as bikers comment that feeding us is pretty hard. Instead of feeding 27 hungry people, it is more like feeding 40, especially after long biking days. Tonight we headed over to an alumni's house for a backyard BBQ. Alexa participated in the northern trip last year and she and her roommate were great to hang out with.

After dinner we headed over to the Maple Leaf, a local bar which has live music every night. We got the suggestion at dinner because the Rebirth Brass Band, a local Grammy winning group, would be playing. One of throw mates said that if we were to see one thing while in town this week, this band would best. We did not need to be convinced. The band was great and you would check some of their stuff out on YouTube. When I ink NOlA jazz bar this place fit the bill. I was dark, had great tin pressed ceilings, was hot and crowded and most importantly the music was blaring. Unfortunately we only were able to hear the first set because we had to find a cab and be back in the church for our 1am build day curfew.
