Bike Ride to Athens

Carthage to Athens: 78.4

Total mileage: 1450

The first twenty miles or so were pretty bad. My group was pretty banged up so tired legs combined with headwinds, hills and bad roads made for a rough twenty miles. Pretty much repeat all of the above and you will get the general idea of how the day went.

At mile forty we stopped for lunch and I passed out for an hour on a picnic bench. Nap two of the day was on the side of the road for another hour while Stephanie tried to put her chain back together.

At second lunch, which was about twenty miles out from the host, we learned that the roads ahead were really dangerous and that we might have to van for a portion of it. We did get to hang out for a while at this cool stop until we got the official word that we would be dropped six miles from the host. The one downfall of getting vanned, besides not being on our bikes, is that we had to unpack the trailer so we could repack our bikes.

Once we showed up at the host, we were split up among several different families which mean that we would be able to sleep in a bed and get a real shower.

Alicia, David and I went home with a great couple. After the house tour went into the garden and got to pick some tomatoes and afterwords were able to try some homemade over night pickles which were great.
