Why We Build

After perusing some past bikers blogs I came across this FANTASTIC video that sums up what Habitat for Humanity does.  It does a really great job touching on domestic and international issues, as well as give a brief overview of how housing impacts health outcomes and education.

Habitat is one of the major affordable housing organizations that is working to build houses for those who need them most.  The results move beyond the homes, but can improve the community, as well as the relationships between family members and between families in the community.

Habitat works because it is "a sustainable, gradual solution."  One of the other great thing about the program is that people are not just given homes.  Instead people are required to put in 500 hours of sweat equity where they help in the building process.
