Bike Ride to Carthage TEXAS

Elm Grove to Carthage: 84.7

Total Mileage: 1371.6

This morning we were bikers with a mission as Marcus' father arranged for a police escort onto the local air force base along with a tour. The twenty miles to the base flew by and before we knew it we had arrived.

David, Mrcus' dad, gave us a brief history lesson of the planes on base and talked about his time as a piolet. Very cool!!

As we were leaving the base, we hopped on a bike trail which took us straight into Boiser City. When the trail ended we found a bunch of kids participating in a camp event which included a moon bounce. Smelling the roses, we decided to jump in it ourselves.

Pelicans, the state bird of LA

For lunch our goal was to head to the American Rose Garden which conveniently was about half way through our ride. While we had missed most of the rose season, there were still a few blooms out and it was nice to walk around and not to be on a bike for a while.

Next on the list was the Texas boarder. We first found an unofficial one

After we decided to backtrack and see if we might be able to find the LA state sign because we missed it on our way into the state. Sure enough the road we were taking out happened to have one so I was able to get a shot.

Then off to the official Texas state sign

The rest of the ride was pretty rough because the roads were pretty bumpy, but it was worth it when we got to the host as the porch was fully stocked with beers and we had some awesome briscut for dinner.
