Bike Ride to THE GRAND CANYON!!!!

Jacob Lake to the North Rim: 43.2 miles

Total mileage: 2792.2 miles

This morning I got up with the sunrise and was packed and ready to go super quick because I did not have to worry about taking down a tent. Before we headed out of town a bunch of us stopped at the same dinner to grab coffee because we has a short ride to the NORTH RIM; it is hard to believe that we would be there in a few short hours.

Coffee Bike and Build style. Up side, I did not have to wash another bowl for my oatmeal.

Despite all of the hill climbing we did yesterday we still had more to go. Heading up the hills just after breakfast was a bit rough. At least we had coffee and fresh baked cookies in our stomachs to help get us up the hills.

A few years ago the North Rim area was hit by some wildfires, but thankfully much of the area is starting to grow back.

A few miles before lunch we ran into Ben, Susan and Marcus who were having a picnic on a rock formation so we decided to crash ... we were not in too big of a hurry due to the short mileage. It was also the perfect opportunity to pull out the cookie I had bought at the cafe this morning.

After lunch it was a cool 18 miles into the Canyon and down to our camp site. Once we were outside we of course had to take pictures ... WE HAD FINALLY MADE IT TO THE GRAND CANYON.

The ride was mostly down hill with a tailwind so we were there pretty quickly. From there we decided to go exploring so we picked up a short one mile hike and headed out to the Lodge. The path ran across the ridge and we were finally able to see what we had been thinking about all day.

Group shot after chatting up B&B with some visitors. Because all 27 of us were running around in our jerseys we became quite well known around the park. We were those crazy kids who were biking across the country.

We all housed some lunch because despite the short ride in we were all pretty hungry when we arrived - there will come a day when we will no longer be hungry all the time.

In the great room of the lodge there were some over stuffed leather couches which overlooked the Canyon. Kristina and I decided they would make a bomb nap spot so we passed out for about an hour before we hitched a ride back to the camp ground; this would be the first of many hitches in the Grand Canyon.

After hanging out at the camp site for a while a couple of us decided to head back to the lodge to kill some time and take a dance video with Alex leading the charge. The walk seemed kind of long and there was a huge storm rolling in so we decided to try and get a ride to the bottom. Here Kristina and I are crammed into the back of the car while the other three are sitting in actual seats.

Once we got there we started to hutle because of a huge storm rolling in. As we were filming our dance video I heard Alex crinkling some papers over our head, but he pulled them down too quickly. At this point I should back up for a moment. Each year the rides hold their own B&B prom. This year each guy and one of the girls drew names for two girls who they would ask to prom. Each threesome would then come to prom as a famous threesome. All the askers had until two days after the Grand Canyon to ask their dates. Okay now back to the story. So after we shoot the videos we watch them back and when we were I realized that the crinkling was Alex holding up a sign asking me to prom. I have a prom date !!!
