Build Day #15

The original plan for our group was to gut a purchased house by the St. George Habitat affiliate. All of the papers for the house were supposed to be signed on Wednesday, but unfortunately nothing was official. As a result Melissa, the coordinator, had to pull together a variety of projects for us to work on. Because the projects were on the smaller side, we did not have to start until 9 or 10 am depending on the site.

My group was sent across town to work on some decking projects. Our construction manager was a little late so we had time to chat with Nola, one of the home owners. When we arrived on her front porch we noticed that she had a line dancing sign and we of course were interested in learning (it is on my B&B bucket list). Over the next hour we learned and pretty much mastered two different dances. One of the dances would be performed flash mob style later tonight when we were all back together at the host.

Unfortunately the projects were a bit small for the number of people we had which meant that I only screwed a few screws in before wrapping it up for the day. Our group was happy that we did not have anything too intense because the weather had gotten quite hot due to a combination of dropping several thousand feet and riding into a section of Utah which is known for being hot.

That evening, once we we showered, we headed back to the church for a pot luck. Even though none of us had been on a bike all day and we did not have to do too much manual labor our metabolisms were still in high gear and we had a great dinner. The dinner chore group also banged their presentation out of the park with Marcus charming the crowd and giving the most informative and funny bike safety speech we have heard all summer.
