Zion to St George: 51.6 mileage
Total mileage: 2969.2 miles
We were all up bright and early and slightly damp. Everyone wanted to get going because we would have until 1:30 to hike and explore until we had to be out on the road and heading to the host. While there were several people who wanted to tackle a challenging five mile hike with crazy elevation climbs, Jessie, Kristina and I decided to go to the Upper Emerald Pool. The brochure said it would take us about three hours so we decided to hit the ground running. The climb was all up hill, but it was still cool enough that we we able to enjoying and make some good time.
Top to bottom it took us about an hour and a half. As we were finishing up the trail we ran into a couple who had a friend on one of the other trips. Small world or what?!?
By the time we took the shuttle back to the parking lot and collected our bikes it was 11 and we were head of schedule. From there we headed out of the park to the neighboring town to pick up some brunch before we headed out again because the van would not be stopping for lunch once it left the park.
The three of us made really good time as most of the ride was downhill and there were a few sections where we had a tail wind. About six miles out from the host Kristina's derailed cable snapped in two which meant that she would not be able to change her gears. That did not stop her as she was beasting it up the handful of small hills.
Once we hit the host we heard rumors about an ice cream shop down the road which would take cream/milk/your ice cream base, freeze it with liquid nitrogen and make your ice cream right in front of you; think Cold Stones on crack.
